Stadium-foundation
The Olympic stadium is administered and managed by the Stadium-foundation. The Stadium-foundation was founded in December 1927. The foundation was founded by the essential sport organisations, the city of Helsinki and at a later stage the government of Finland. The most important objective of the parties was to have such a stadium built into Helsinki, that the city could apply for the summer olympics. The thought of Finnish olympics had already started at the Stockholm 1912 Olympics.
A key person in the stadium-foundation was the foundations first chairman Erik von Frenckell, the most distinguished sportsdirector in the history of Finland, who acted as the chairman of the foundation through the years 1927 to 1977. After him the foundations executive committee was lead by Victor Procopé (1978-1988). Ulla Gyllenberg was the chairman during 1989-1992 and the current chairman Erkki Aurejärvi started 1993.
The main purpose of the stadium-foundation is the development of the stadium building and events in all forms. The City of Helsinki, Ministry of Education and the essential sport organisations are still represented in the administration of the foundation.
