THE OLYMPIC STADIUM JOINS THE SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL FINLAND PROGRAMME

Published 17.3.2021

The Helsinki Olympic Stadium is one of the most famous travel destinations in Finland and its capital city. The Stadium Foundation and the Sports Museum have decided to join the Sustainable Travel Finland development programme. The idea of the programme is to adopt a continuous development model for promoting sustainable practices in the travel industry.

The Olympic Stadium and the Sports Museum have committed to following the 7-step development path designed by the Sustainable Travel Finland programme. Companies and destinations that have completed the path are awarded the Sustainable Travel Finland label as a symbol of their capability for sustained and responsible growth in the travel industry. Modern functionality of the renovated Olympic Stadium and the renewed Sports Museum creates a perfect environment for successful completion of the programme and provides sustainable experiences for our Finnish and international visitors.

Ari Kuokkanen, Director of the Stadium Foundation, says: “The entire Olympic Stadium and its spirit were built upon a sustainable base, as the Stadium has always been seen as a continuum from generation to another. Now we have moved from words to deeds: the principle of sustainable development will be manifest and made visible in all our services, events and recycling solutions.”

In the Sports Museum sustainable development will be taken into consideration in all activities and everyday details. After all, culture consumption is sustainable activity in itself, and sustainability is considered a core value in museum work. The Sports Museum seeks to recycle different materials and constructs used in our special exhibitions in efficient ways. The Museum store offers environmentally sustainable Finnish-made quality products.

“As tenants at the Olympic Stadium we want to contribute to the building of a highly sustainable working environment and offer quality experiences for our visitors. Achieving the goals of sustainable development in museum activities is a task that offers challenges but also great opportunities. The renovated Olympic Stadium gives us even better chances to find environmentally beneficial and sustainable solutions that will also be appreciated by our visitors and customers”, says Jukka-Pekka Vuori, Director of the Sports Museum of Finland.
